On Oct 5, 2017, New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor published a scorching exposé titled "Harvey Weinstein Paid Off Sexual Harassment Accusers for Decades," which encouraged legions of women to come forward and share their own stories of abuse at the hands of one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. Considering the story's connection to the moviemaking industry, it was only a matter of time before the story was given the similar dramatization treatment that was done for Fox News CEO Roger Ailes in "Bombshell." The result was Emmy Award-winning director Maria Schrader's "She Said," from a script by Rebecca Lenkiewicz. Two-time Academy Award-nominee Carey Mulligan ("Promising Young Woman," "An Education") and Zoe Kazan ("The Plot Against America," "The Big Sick") star as Twohey and Kantor, delivering phenomenal performances in this film highlighting just how intense the process was to bring Weinstein to justice and call him out publicly.
Unfortunately, "She Said" did not perform well at the box office. It's a shame considering "She Said" is loaded with some unbelievably incredible monologues, with the impressive supporting cast including Patricia Clarkson ("Sharp Objects," "House of Cards"), Andre Braugher ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine", "The Mist"), and Ashley Judd ("Double Jeopardy," "Bug"), who was herself a major player in the real Weinstein exposé effort. The crimes of Harvey Weinstein irreparably changed the film industry, of this there is no doubt, but "She Said" is a film far more interested in letting the women who were harmed take control of the narrative. While the film is still playing in select theaters as we head into awards season, here's how you can watch "She Said" from the comfort of your home.
She Said Is Coming To Peacock
Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor won a Pulitzer Prize for their reporting on Harvey Weinstein and the corrupt system that allowed him to cause harm to countless women across decades. Now, the dramatization of that story in "She Said" will soon be available for home viewing. Given the context of the film's plot, it wouldn't be surprising if a huge percentage of the film's target demographic waited until the film was on streaming to see it, because crying in public isn't exactly anyone's favorite thing to do — dark theater or not.
"She Said" will be available to stream on Peacock beginning January 6, 2023, and digital rental for those that do not have the NBCUniversal streaming app. Even more exciting, "She Said" will also be available on physical media, with Blu-ray and DVD releasing on January 10, 2023 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment with exclusive bonus content. The bonus features include "Breaking the Story," a behind-the-scenes featurette with the real Twohey and Kantor discussing what it took to get the story published, in their own words.
All purchases of "She Said" whether digital or physical are also eligible to earn points through the Universal All-Access Rewards program. Members can redeem their accumulated points for digital movies, swag, and more.
