Droids are one of the best parts of the "Star Wars" canon. Whether it's the paranoid communication android C-3PO, the sassy RD-D2, or sentient soccer ball BB-8, the droids of "Star Wars" bring a lot of comedy and cuteness to the sci-fi universe. There's a massive community of folks online who build and modify pre-existing Droid Depot droids as well, bringing these fictional friends to our reality. One fan-favorite droid that appeared in the "Jedi: Fallen Order" video game made an appearance in "The Book of Boba Fett" Chapter 5. Or at least the same model of droid did.
In the episode, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) returns to Mos Eisley and reunites with mechanic Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris). Motto's dealing with a rogue womp rat in her hangar, and the nasty little beast attacks one of her droids, a BD unit. Thankfully, Djarin shows up and shoots the womp rat before it can destroy the droid or chomp on Motto, but it does wound the BD unit's leg. Fans are wondering if the little guy is actually BD-1, the droid companion that helps players through "Jedi: Fallen Order." BD-1 even starts the game with an injured foot, much like Motto's BD droid.
Let's investigate a bit more, and try to figure out of that's our old friend or just someone who looks like him.
Hey, Little Guy
"The Book of Boba Fett" is set about 23 or 24 years after the events of "Jedi: Fallen Order," so it's entirely possible that BD-1 ended up on Tatooine. After all, Motto seems to collect wayward droids. He's got a different paint job, but that could just be the result of years in the desert wearing off the white and orange from his earlier years. There's not much reason for Motto to have an exploration droid, but it does make sense for her to have taken him in if he came to her. In "Jedi: Fallen Order," BD-1 helps young outcast Jedi Cal Kestis, saving his life and later helping him escape an underground prison. BD-1 is a little droid with a lot of courage, and his appearance in "Book of Boba Fett" would make a lot of gamers very happy.
The big question, if that is in fact BD-1, is where the heck is Cal? The Jedi and the little robot are pretty much inseparable, following in the "Star Wars" tradition of a hero and his piggybacking pal when BD-1 rides on Cal's shoulders like Yoda did with Luke. It looks like Djarin is going to be spending a bit more time with Motto, so that means we'll hopefully get to see more of the BD droid and figure out his identity.
