(Welcome to …And More, our no-frills, zero B.S. guide to when and where you can watch upcoming movies and shows, and everything else you could possibly stand to know.)
Earlier this year, The Walt Disney Company shut down Blue Sky Studios, the creators 'of the "Ice Age" franchise as well as "Robots," "The Peanuts Movie," and the recent "Spies in Disguise." But that's not stopping Disney from releasing another "Ice Age" movie on Disney+. Originally slated to be an animated series, "The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild" will now be the sixth installment of the film franchise, and we've got all the details you need to know so far.
The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild Release Date And Where To Watch It
"The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild" will be arriving exclusively on Disney+ on January 28, 2022. Since this is heading straight to Disney+, it won't be receiving a theatrical release like the rest of the "Ice Age" films, and you probably won't be able to see it on VOD anywhere else either.
What Is The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild?
Originally announced as a TV series from 20th Century Fox back in 2018, "The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild" came under the Disney banner when they purchased the studio and rebranded it as 20th Century Studios. The project was said to follow the adventures of swashbuckling weasel Buck (Simon Pegg), as well as prankster possum brothers Crash and Eddie (Sean William Scott and Josh Gad).
The series was redeveloped as a new animated feature film with the same premise, though it's not clear if anything changed with regards to the story. Since Blue Sky Studios has been shut down, it's possible that this could be the final film in the "Ice Age" franchise. But it doesn't look like the characters who led the original "Ice Age" movies have a prominent role, since it follows Crash and Eddie falling into the Lost World where Buck has been living among the dinosaurs, sending them on a series of adventures.
The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild Cast
Simon Pegg is again voicing Buck, after debuting the character in "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" and returning for "Ice Age: Collision Course." However, it hasn't been confirmed whether or not Seann William Scott and Josh Gad will be returning as Crash and Eddie.
In their brief appearances, it sounds like Ray Romano is back as Manny the mammoth and John Leguizamo is again voicing Sid the sloth. However, it's possible that other voice actors could be doing respectable impersonations of the actors, especially since this was developed as a series before it became a movie, and the voice stars of animated movies don't always reprise their roles in TV series spin-offs.
The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild Director, Writer, And More
"The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild" will be directed by John C. Donkin, marking his feature directorial debut after producing several installments of the "Ice Age" franchise previously, not to mention other Blue Sky Studios productions like "Robots" and "Rio."
The script for the animated sequel comes from "Fairly OddParents" writers Ray DeLaurentis and William Schifrin, and this is their first time being involved in the "Ice Age" franchise. They're also helping Disney+ revive the "Night at the Museum" franchise in animated form with the movie "Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again."
