(Welcome to Where to Watch, which provides a clear and simple answer to the question, "Hey, where can I watch this thing?" In this edition: "Hunter x Hunter")
"Hunter x Hunter" is one of the most popular manga series ever written, even boasting a "Hiatus Clock" that actively tracks how long it has been since a new chapter has been published. Yoshihiro Togashi's manga has been adapted into two separate anime series, two feature films, two different stage musicals, and a stage play. The story follows Gon Freecss, a boy who one day discovers that the father he had always been told was dead is not only alive and well but a famous "Hunter," or someone who has proven themself an elite member of humanity. Gon's father, Ging, left him with relatives in order to pursue his dreams, inspiring Gon to follow in his footsteps and join his father in becoming a Hunter himself.
This is obviously the most generic, baseline description of the show, but attempting to provide a comprehensive guide to a long-running manga-turned-anime series would be a massive disservice to the intricate world surrounding "Hunter x Hunter."
The first series was produced in 1999 by Nippon Animation and directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, providing a total of 62 episodes. In 2011, a reboot of "Hunter x Hunter" was released with no relation to the previous series, produced by Nippon TV, VAP, Shueisha, and Madhouse, and directed by Hiroshi Kōjina. Whether you're looking for the original series or the new one, here's where you can stream or buy every season of "Hunter x Hunter."
Hunter X Hunter (1999)
"Hunter X Hunter" is a classic shonen anime, but the original run from 1999 is surprisingly really hard to find. Told in four story arcs (Hunter Exam arc, Zoldyck Family arc, Heavens Arena arc, and Yorknew City Arc/Phantom Troupe Arc) Viz Media had licensed the "Hunter × Hunter" anime for distribution as a DVD box set back in 2008, but tracking a copy down will definitely cost you a pretty penny on eBay.
"Hunter × Hunter" also aired in the United States on the Funimation Channel in the spring of 2009, but as of today, "Hunter x Hunter" isn't streaming anywhere and the DVDs are out of print. There are Discord servers and YouTube uploads of the series that are pretty easy to find, but in the interest of not encouraging piracy or illegal streaming, we won't be linking to them.
Hunter X Hunter (2011)
While the original series may be harder to find, the 2011 reboot is far more accessible. The entire six-season series is currently available to stream on Netflix, HBO Max, and Crunchyroll. As for purchasing the show, the series has been released on DVD and Blu-Ray and are available just about everywhere from Amazon to Walmart.
