US streaming giant, Netflix, has decided to pull out of the Cannes Film Festival this year due to rules that say movies not screened in theatres will not be eligible for participation.

After a week-long standoff, Netflix pulled out of the Cannes Film Festival hours before the lineup was announced on Thursday. Cannes chief Thierry Fremauz had banned Netflix movies from competing because they flouted the festival’s rules about theatrical distribution.
